Shipping Crating and Pick-Up Information
The scooter has to be prepared for a long journey over thousands of miles of ocean and land in most cases. In order to ensure your scooter looks and works like it does during the final inspection, we take the following steps to prepare it:
- Drain the fuel system of all gas and oil — note gear oil remains in the gear case
- The Scooter is then carefully wrapped in a protective cover and shrink wrapped with plastic
- A custom wooden frame crate is constructed and built around the scooter, securing it in place with wooden cross braces
- The crates hold the scooter in place within the crate
- The approximate crate size is 6’ Long × 3’ Tall × 2.5’ Wide
- These crates are so strong you can climb and walk on them
- We typically get the scooter shipped within 7 days of payment, but this can take up to 20 days depending on upgrade options added and customs prep time
- Sea freight time varies by country and location. Most shipments take between 30–45 days. There are some cases of longer times due to customs delay and inspection
- To certain countries, we can perform and certify the fumigation and certification
- If you have an inland destination, the scooter is unloaded from vessel and shipped via truck or rail to a local warehouse for pick up
- After the scooter ships out, we send the documents for pick up via scan and email. If you want the original documents we can arrange DHL courier service for them for $40.00 additional charge. The documents have a local shipping company to contact for more information and pick-up arrangements
- We will give updates to the estimated arrival date throughout the shipping process
- About a week prior to pick-up, notification is sent via arrival notice, explaining the pick-up arrangements and local fees due
- In the US the local fees can be range from $100–$200 for a scooter. Due to homeland security and much higher inspection procedures documentation, the fees are much higher today then 1 year ago
- Customs clearance is required before you can pick up the scooter. In most cases this is easy and in the same general location as the where the warehouse is for pick up. These scooters are more then 25 years old and do not require to adhere to present safety inspection or emissions. (In US, DOT and EPA waiver forms are available on this website for download) I have heard of cases that customs tell you the scooters need to be inspected. This is not true. Please read the details.
