The Total Scooter Restoration to Immaculate Condition

Our years of experience have taught us what the best components are and how to restore these scooters. We closely monitor every step in the restoration process and all the way to shipping. We are building about 10 scooters all the time, and always have a few scooters in stock to sell. We also custom build to order and depending on the scooter type this can be done is 3–4 weeks. If we are restoring a similar scooter we can do some slight customizations. We build about 200 scooters a year.

What is critical in the restoration process is beginning with a good scooter frame, stripping it down to bare metal. We do this by Chemical dipping the frame to strip of anything that is not metal. We then perform a close inspection, cut out and replace any weak or rust area. The frame is checked on a jig and must be straight, solid and built correctly.

Once the frame is primed it is then wet sanded cleaned, dried and prepared for paint. This step is very important and needs to be done with highly skilled personnel only. The careful preparation before painting is critical.

We use a rust inhibiting primer, and make sure all the rust is removed and any future rust is stopped. This is on of the most difficult things to do with any restorations. We work very hard to make sure there is the highest quality restoration possible.

Primered ready for bondo and sanding

After the primer is applied we apply a thin coating of bondo and perform a multi step wet sanding process. We make sure the frames are then cleaned and prepared for the painting process.

The final painting process is done with high quality Baked Enamel paint. This is a multi layer painting process then it is cured in a clean booth at 140 ° C for 3 hours. This hardens the paint and allows a more rapid curing process.

We specify which type if component to use as the replacement. For example the new piston and Cylinder head which are aftermarket and made in Vietnam, work for a short time them seize due to the quality of the steel used. We use the castings from the original Vespa dies made in India.
